Financial Resources Programs

Sometimes unfortunate or tragic things happen to good people. Pets are great therapy to you and your family. Consider these financial resources to help you care for your cat through tough times:

Kitty Kibble Supply

The Kitty Kibble Supply is a program designed to help people in the community feed their cats when they are in a time of financial distress. In 2010 we were able to hand out 3263 pounds of dry food and 334 cases of canned food. For more information , please read below:

Kitty Kibble Supply 2011 FAQ

  • Who can get assistance?
    • Anyone in Larimer or Weld County that needs assistance in feeding their cats can use our program. This can be owned cats or feral cats. All cats that are being fed need to be spayed or neutered within 30 days of receiving food from us. If you or someone you know has unaltered pets, please ask us about our low cost spay and neuter clinic. There are additional financial assistance programs that you may qualify for to help pay for the cost of the surgery.
  • How do I apply for assistance?
    • You must fill out a 'Kitty Kibble Supply Form'. This form gives us information about the cats you are feeding and why you need help. This information is important so that we can assess the needs of our community, solicit for donations of food from retailers, and keep track of the progress of this program.
  • How long can I get assistance?
    • You can get assistance with food as long as you need and as long as your cats are spayed or neutered. If they are not altered within 30 days of receiving food, you will no longer be able to receive food until they are altered. Please ask an employee for more information on altering your pets.
  • How often can I get food?
    • Depending on how much food is issued at your visit will determine when you can get assistance again. We will try to give you food for a 1 month supply, but may be unable to due to our supply.
  • How much food is given?
    • Dry Food Only: 1 pound pet cat per week
    • Canned Food Only: 1 can per cat per day
    • *You can get a combination of dry and canned if you prefer and both are available.
  • Where does the food come from?
    • The food is donated by individuals, veterinary clinics and stores in the community. Since we have a variety of donations from the community it is unlikely that you will receive the same type of food at each visit. Suddenly changing your cats diet may cause an upset stomach. If possible you should gradually change your cats food over a 3 - 5 day period.
  • Do you always have food?
    • We almost always have some type of cat food available. However, since we rely on donations from the community, we cannot guarantee any amount, type, brand or flavor of food. If you are only able to feed a certain type of food, please call ahead of time to verify if we have that type of food available.
  • What days can I get food?
    • You can get food during any OPEN hours at the shelter. DO NOT come into the shelter before we are open to receive food. Please allow at least 5 minutes for staff to get food. You may need to wait for an employee to become available to retrieve your food. Please do not go into 'staff only' areas to collect items as we will bring them out to you.
  • Location and Hours
    • We are located at 2321 East Mulberry Street Unit #1, Fort Collins, CO 80524. We are open Monday thru Friday 11 am - 6 pm, Saturday & Sunday 11 am - 4 pm. We are closed on all major holidays. Please call us 970-484-8516 if you have questions.

PAL and PAVE Programs

P.A.L (Prevent A Litter) provides financial assistance for spay/neuter surgeries. Below are some frequency asked questions that will give you more information on the program. If you would like to participate, bring this form when you come into the shelter or fill it out at the shelter: PAL registration form

P.A.L. (Prevent A Litter) Program Information
  • What is the P.A.L. Program?
    • The P.A.L. Program was created in 2008 to help low-income community members get their pets spayed/neutered. The P.A.L. Program is part of Fort Collins Spay/Neuter Clinic which is an entity of the non-profit organization Fort Collins Cat Rescue. Funding from the P.A.L. program covers the cost of the spay/neuter procedure on pets owned by low-income community members.
  • Where does the funding for P.A.L. come from?
    • The funding for P.A.L. comes from individual donors and from grants.
  • Who can apply for P.A.L.?
    • Any resident of Larimer or Weld County can apply for P.A.L. funding. However, you must provide proof that you are low-income and/or on government assistance.
  • How do I apply for P.A.L.?
    • A P.A.L. application must be filled out and sent or brought to FCSN or FCCR along with the requested documents.
  • Where do I get a P.A.L. application?
    • You can get a P.A.L. application from our website (www.FortCollinsCatRescue.org), from the Fort Collins Spay/Neuter Clinic, or from Fort Collins Cat Rescue.
  • How long until I am approved?
    • A representative from FCSN will get in touch with you within two business days of you submitting your application to let you know if you are approved or not. They may need to get more information from you over the phone before being able to approve you.
  • Once I am approved, how long until my pet will get altered?
    • As long as funding is available, your pet can be scheduled as soon as the next available surgery day. Usually this is within a week or two of being approved.
  • How many pets can I apply for funding for?
    • You can apply for funding for all pets you own at the time you fill out the P.A.L. application. We may not be able to get them all altered at the same time as it depends on the amount of funding we currently have available.
  • What if I get a new pet after submitting an application for my current pets? Can I apply for P.A.L.?
    • You cannot apply for P.A.L. funding for any new pets after your initial application. If you are struggling to provide veterinary care for your current pets, we highly recommend that you not get any more pets.
  • Is there any way to receive help with vaccinating my pet?
    • Yes. We also have a program to help low-income community members get their pets vaccinated called P.A.V.E. The P.A.L. application and P.A.V.E. application are one and the same.

IMPORTANT: Any animal that we provide spay/neuter services for MUST have a current Rabies Vaccination. If your animal is not current on this vaccine, it can be done in our clinic at the time of surgery for $12. If you cannot afford the $12 for the vaccine, you must fill out the P.A.L./P.A.V.E. application to reflect that you need help with vaccinating your animal in addition to surgery.

Bring this completed form with required items when you come into the clinic or shelter: PAL registration form
