Feral Cat Services
Northern Colorado Friends of Ferals
The NCFF Program through FCCR was started in 2009. NCFF is now through ARC, but the goals remain the same - to help feral cat colony caretakers get their cats spayed/neutered. There are a large number of kindhearted people in Northern Colorado who feed feral cats. Some manage to trap them and have them spayed or neutered, but many find it difficult, don't have traps, the trapping know-how, or the funds available to pay for the surgery. The NCFF group is comprised entirely of generous volunteer trappers, veterinarians and clinic assistants who give their time once a month to this program. Cats are trapped, transported to the clinic for their surgery, held overnight for observation and returned to their colonies the following day. This type of program is gaining popularity nationally as the most efficient and most humane way of decreasing colony numbers and stopping the euthanasia of these cats at shelters. Ferals are not candidates for adoption and hence, nearly 100% of them are euthanized when they go to shelters.
As of August 15th 2010, we have completed over 19 TNR (Trap-Neuter-Release) weekends, have altered 730 cats, and found homes through FCCR for 91 kittens! We now have a mobile spay/neuter vehicle and hope to significantly increase the scope of this program throughout 2010.
Thanks to all the wonderful volunteers and donors for a great TNR year! You are making a difference!
