Samantha, Sammy, Sambus - she was a cat of many names and a cat that brought many years of happiness to her family. December 2000 was the best Christmas of my life, as well as my sister's. We were told that we were finally going to be getting two precious kittens. Since we had wanted kitties for as long as I can remember, this was the most excitement a 12 year old could experience. Four months later, we brought home our beautiful Siamese babies, whom we named Samantha and Missie. Both cats were very special, but Samantha had my heart from first sight. We were the best of friends, always together.
I have the fondest memories of Samantha growing up, right up until she passed away. Every morning she would come into my bed, get on top of my chest and purr like crazy, probably 100 mph. This was particularly uncomfortable considering she weighed 12 pounds. Most of the time I accidently knocked her off the bed but every time she would jump back up and let out a demanding meow. Her purr was the most memorable thing about her. She could purr for hours upon hours, especially when you would rub her tummy.
After only a few years of life, Samantha's mischievous personality got her into trouble. She was accidently poisoned and was faced with serious illness. She was extremely close to death. She proved to be a very strong kitty and survived. Although she suffered liver damage from this event, she was still the sweetest most energetic kitty in the world. She lived happily for many more years until July 19, 2009 when she became very ill. Samantha was in diabetic shock after her pancreas became infected, subsequently spreading throughout her body. She fought hard for 2 weeks until it was obvious that she could no longer go on the way she was living. It was this day when I made the hardest decision of my life, to let my sweet baby go and release her pain.
She spent the last day of her life doing all of her favorite things. She sunbathed for hours, one of her favorite activities, and purred endlessly, as she had always done. She also played with her favorite blue mouse. She acted as if she was perfectly fine, never letting her trust in me dwindle, and that was what made letting go of her so difficult. August 5th, 2009 precious baby Samantha was put to sleep and was released from her worldly sickness and pain. She was only 8 years old. It was truly a heartbreaking experience.
I miss her terribly and think of her often. Her entire family so desperately wishes she was still here but we know that she is living a life of luxury in kitty heaven, playing with mice, eating as much as she wants, and purring endlessly. She is truly an irreplaceable part of our family and my life. I look forward to the day that I'll see her again. I love you Sammy.
Love your mommy,
Becky
